‘Jagriti Yatra’ is an opportunity, for the India's highly motivated youth, on an ambitious train journey of ‘Discovery and Transformation’, on an 15 day National Odyssey. The aim is to awaken the ‘Spirit of Entrepreneurship’.
The ‘Vision’ of Jagriti is to ‘Inspire’
Young Indians living in the middle of the Indian demographic diamond (Rs 40 -
Rs 120 per day) to lead development by taking to enterprise. By doing so, they
can turn from job seekers to job creators.
On 24th December every year a train leaves Mumbai with 400 Young Indians on board. These participants represent the hopes, aspirations and energy of a young entrepreneurial India on the move. They will travel over 8000 kilometer (15 Days, 450 Youths, 1 Train, 12 Destinations, 15 Role Models) across the country, exploring it and meeting change makers who are shaping India through enterprise.
15 days later when they arrive back
in Mumbai; they would have met leaders and institutions as diverse as Infosys,
Biocon, R. Elango, the visionary Panchayat leader in Kuthambakkam, Joe Madiath
of Gram Vikas, The Arvind Eye Care System founded by the legendary Dr.
Venkatswamy and the Barefoot College in Tilonia setup and run by Buker Roy;
among others.
These participants will understand and
analyze how these enterprises were founded and nurtured through those dark
nights every change maker has to go through till they awaken to the bright
morning of a sustainable institution.
The journey will touch the four
corners of India, and return with a group bound by their love for the country.
A similar journey has been going on since 2008 and proved transformative for
those who traveled on it.
Not just Indians but a number of international participants from
Africa, USA and Europe also took part and went away with a deep insight of
this emerging India.
In the 2012 Yatra, which started on
24th Dec 2012, an young professional from our community (Shri.
G.Chockalingam, S/O Shri Gnanadesikan IOB (Rtd), Kovilpatti) had the privilege
to join the Yatra 2012. Perhaps, this is
the first such incident our community member could take a lead & participate
in such an endeavor.
Other aspiring youths of our
community (both at Tamilnadu as well as
the International OPS Youths), who may evince interest, may try for the ensuing
Yatra 2013, for which the selection line is open now. For economically poor,
but meritorious & needy, sponsorships are also considered by the
organizers. They also encourage & prefer participation from rural & backward area
students who are in the final year of their collegiate education.
